Movmnt Interviews Young Soon Kim, White Wave Dance

Movmnt continues it’s search for new inspiration, in an all new video, as we sit down with Artistic Director of White Wave Dance, Young Soon Kim, and discover how she first started the White Wave Dane Company.

Kim founded White Wave Dance in 1988, and has seen it prosper over the last 20 years. The Company is based in Brooklyn, NY at the John Ryan TheateR. White Wave has performed for the Joyce Theater, Kennedy Center, Dance Theater Workshop, Jacob’s Pillow, American Dance Festival, National Theater of Seoul, National Theater of Taipei, Ichibangi Theater (Tokyo), and the 1988 Summer Olympics World Dance Festival.

White Wave hosted Dumbo Dance Festival this September, where over 80 companies performed. Despite the bad weather, dance goers were stretched for blocks while waiting to get into the theatre, just for a chance to see some of the performances.

The Wave Rising Series, also hosted by White Wave begins October 15th, through November 2nd. The series will present 20 dance companies from Switzerland, France, Iceland, the United Kingdom, Korea and the United States. Each of the companies will be perform a 30 minute program, three times throughout the Series.
