Music Review: The Pizzas

Submitted by on 23 Apr 2009 – 12:50 PMNo Comment

The Pizzas are the sauciest tribe this side of the Hudson. The band’s name pays homage to their borough of residence, Brooklyn.

The true identities in this sextet are Magin Scantz and Drae Campell on vocals; Jeff Lorenz on theramin and computer effects; Mike Iannantuono on electric guitar; Peter Lettre on electric bass; and Dave Treut on drums. But when they unite as The Pizzas, they are transformed into Saucy Macdaniels, Draeregano, Dr. Anchovie, Fresh Mozz, Jesus Crust and Bob Aganush.

Music Review

Anyone familiar with the lesbian-punk spoken word duo, Bitch and Animal, should try adding The Pizzas self-titled deubt to their repertoire. Spice things up. The Pizzas roll it all into one with tracks like “Vampires” and “Goo Goo Ga Ga.” Rocky Horror theatrics, forget-me-not cryptic lyrics, suicide vocals, and tons of feedback are all included in their bag of tricks. I think I was told tocatch cancer somewhere in there too. Yum.
