Pushing Progress – The Artist Showcase
Founded in 2006 by Artistic Director, Calen Kurka, Pushing Progress is a contemporary performance based company that brings forward a new generation of technical strength and awareness of mind, body, and movement. Now in their third season, the company continues to move forward and evolve as it presents new ideas and opportunities to the public. This season, Pushing Progress is presenting “The Showcase Series” which provides emerging choreographers with a venue to share new works. “The Artist Showcase”, Sunday March 29th, is the first event in the series and will highlight works from The Next Stage Project / Marijke Eliasberg and Jana Hicks, Salim Gauwloos aka Slam, Chris Hale, Company BRICE MOUSSET, Jason Parsons, Melissa Wolfe-Rosebro, Luam, M. Stuart Dance Theatre, Jacki Ford, Val Ho, LiNK! the Movement, and Calen Kurka’s own work. “The Choreographer’s Showcase”, Sunday May 10th, will feature choreography from the likes of Jason Parsons and Lauren Adams.
In fall 2009, Pushing Progress will start its Contemporary Training Program, which is an eight month training workshop. Dancers will have the opportunity to working intensively with instructors Chris Hale and Calen Kurka and recieve individualized attention. There will also be monthly guest intructors thoughout the course of the workshop and opportunities to dance alongside Pushing Progress, the company. The application deadline for the workshop is May 11, 2009.
