Tabitha and Napoleon – Monsters of the Show
Monsters of Hip Hop presents “Journey of an Underdog”, directed by Tabitha &a Napoleon D’umo. If you didn’t get your summer dose of great hip-hop dancing and entertainment, and want to enjoy live dancing away from youtube or your flat screen TV, then rush to watch “Monsters of Hip Hop: The Show”. With only three shows on August 15 and 16 in Los Angeles, “Journey of an Underdog”, will feature the professional debut of over 15 dancers directed by Hip Hop masters including Tabitha and Napoleon D’umo (Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance), Kevin Maher (Mariah Carey, Britney Spears) and Tony Testa (Janet Jackson, Nickelodeon’s Dance on Sunset). The show is dedicated to Gary Kendell, a member of America’s Best Dance Crew winners, Jabbawockeez, who passed away earlier this year. The Jabbawockeez Crew will be making a special appearance with a tribute performance.
Monsters of Hip Hop: The Show brings together the dance industry’s finest choreographers with up and coming dancers for a professionally produced, Broadway-caliber show. It gives the dancers an opportunity to showcase their talent for both the public and industry representatives including artists, agents and producers. Contributing choreographers include: Marty Kudelka (Justin Timberlake), Popin’ Pete (Electric Boogaloos), Chuck Maldonado (Chris Brown), Rhapsody (Cassie), Chonique Sneed, Teresa Espinosa (Miley Cyrus), David Moore, Brian Friedman (So You Think You Can Dance), Luther Brown and more.
The show is a spin-off of the highly successful Monsters of Hip Hop Conventions, which have steadily grown in popularity and prestige over the past 5 years. Since its debut in 2005, the show provides selected dancers from the Convention tour with the opportunity to work in Los Angeles with the Monsters’ faculty and special guests before performing at the famed El Portal Theatre. Finalists from each city are videotaped for the chance to be in The Show; at the conclusion of the tour the Monsters’ faculty reviews the audition footage to select the cast.
Last year’s show, “Roadtrip”, changed the lives of many of the cast members. One story stood out : 18 year old dancer Sophia Aguilar signed with BLOC Agency right after the show ended. Holding her plane ticket back to Miami in her hand, she was immediately flown to New York City for an MTV Video Music Awards performance with Beyonce. “We were very excited that we had fulfilled our mission to help dancers with the passion, drive and ability to find a path to success in the industry,” states co-founder Andy Funk. “Everyone who attends the Monsters of Hip Hop Convention has this opportunity.”
Movmnt is a proud partner of Monsters of Hip Hop, the show, and will offer every spectator with a copy of the latest issue of the magazine that includes a portrait of the show’s artistic directors Tabitha and Napoleon D’umo.
